Don't let the kids have all the fun. The idea of a 40th, 50th or 60th birthday party may conjure up images of standing around making dull conversation with people you hardly know but it doesn't have to be that way. By following a few tips, you can make sure that you throw a bash that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
Get the invitations right
It might sound obvious, but you'd be amazed how many people either forget to send their party invitations until the last possible minute or actually don't even send them at all.
Once you've remembered to send the invites, there are a few things you can do to make sure people remember to show up. Don't be afraid to write a few tips on the invite itself. Asking people to 'put it in their phone' or 'stick this invite on the fridge' may seem a bit forward but it will almost certainly stop at least one guest from showing up on the wrong day. Make sure that all the required details are on the invitation and completely clear. You'd be amazed how many people forget the address.
Get the timing right
If people will be travelling a long distance to the party then it's probably better to start earlier if you're not able to host people. Don't kick off the festivities at 9pm if the last train out of town leaves at 10:30. Similarly, make sure it's easy for most of the people coming to get to the venue. If you'll be inviting friends who don't drive then don't choose a venue that's miles from anywhere and only accessible by car.
Don't over-do the organisation
In general, people want to feel relaxed and care-free at a party. Organising too many events and activities, particularly if many of the guests at your party don't know each other, may kill the atmosphere. A few ice-breakers are fine but make sure that you don't push things too far.
With these tips and a little initiative, you can make sure that your party goes with a bang. If you need a little more inspiration before your party then check out our other guides on our blog. We wish you every success!
