Surviving a Sleepover Party

There comes a time when you’ll hear the dreaded words – “can I have a sleepover party?” Your initial reaction might be to panic, as this is new ground, but with a little party planning, you can make this an unforgettable experience for all the right reasons. Here are some of our top tips to making your sleepover party experience a big hit.

1. Invitations

Once the guest list has been narrowed down from half your child’s class to a handful of friends, you’ll want some special invitations. You don’t tend to get specialist sleepover party invitations in the shops, so why not have some really special personalised invitations made by Puttyprint? Not only do we have a great selection for girls and boys, but you can have your child’s name and party information added to them.

2. Do your research

Plenty of kids have allergies and specific requirements these days, so save yourself time and worry by asking each parent to let you know if there are any dietary requirements or bedtime routines which you should know about. An emergency contact number for each party guest is a must.

3. Plan lots of activities

Nobody knows your child better than you, so make the activities something you can work on together. We’d recommend craft activities, karaoke, video games, movies, and even a scheduled pillow fight and midnight snack, if you’re feeling brave. The more you schedule, the less chance there is for things to go off-track.

4. Buy tissues

No matter how big and strong the children make themselves out to be, there will be tears, and you’ll need to help pick up the pieces. There may be a disagreement among party guests, a few teary, homesick kids, or even just someone feeling overwhelmed by it all – perhaps the birthday boy or girl themselves! Be ready to mop up some tears and pat some heads before sending them back into the party.

5. Look after yourself

Having kids sleep over is very different to having them around after school for a few hours. Have a glass of wine or good book on standby to help calm your nerves.

Remember, they’re only young once, and their first sleepover is something they’ll always remember. Make it a memorable day right from the start with our wonderful personalised party invitations.
